Our Story

Out of adversity comes strength...…we know trauma is a lonely place

Ethsham Ghafoor (Shami) Memorial Trust (EGMT) was founded following his murdered in 1994, Nottingham. Initially set up as a self-help group by family members to help them cope with not only his murder but the retention and repatriation of vital organ in 2014. EGMT gained charity status in 2017, in his memory and the work we continue to do in Nottinghamshire.

Having experienced first-hand traumatic events and thier impacted on mental health and wellness, we decided to reach out to other survivors of mental and emotional trauma. We began by connecting with people in similar circumstances to share our experience and listen to what they had to say.

Talking therapies empowered us achieving a way forward, towards our own mental wellness recovery.

We are survivors of trauma.

Our vision, to champion trauma survivors and mental health wellness projects across Nottinghamshire. EGMT is in a period of organic growth, we are small but have a growing local foot print.
